According to most Bengali moms, water is the solution to every problem in life. “Ammu, onek matha betha. Ajke school ey jabo nah.” “Dui glass paani kheye taratari ready hou.” “Ammu, I need to see a Dermatologist. My skin has been breaking out like crazy.” “Paani khao nah je! Amra chhoto belay eto paani khetam, tomader boyosh ey butter er moto skin chhilo.” “Ammu, ami A’ Levels ey Math drop korbo. I don’t get Math.”“How will you get it? Your brain doesn’t work properly because..” You guessed it right! “Ek fota o paani khao nah sharadin.”
As I hung up the call with my friend (Let’s call her Kiki), I recollected the bittersweet memories of my wedding. I say bittersweet because for a very long time, I have deliberately forced myself to not recall the anxiety-ridden days of my wedding and yet, I have found myself smiling alone like an imbecile, reminiscing the most eventful days of my life. Weddings are different in every country and culture. In Bangladesh, weddings are kind of a big deal. So big, that it has a season of its own! Winter, that previously used to mean picnics, pithas and plush cardigans, has now become everything about holud rehearsals, Kachchi Biryani and dazzling lehengas. But hey, I ain’t complaining! Infact, I love weddings. I love dolling up and attending these events where the families put an astronomical amount of effort to make it a night to remember. I love everything about a wedding, unless it’s my own.
Do you find Mother’s Day overrated? I don’t. Yeah yeah, I know how some of you feel like it’s a well planned marketing scheme for the flower industry or that Mothers should be celebrated all year round but, be honest here, do we really do that? Do we actually go out of our ways everyday to make her feel special? In most cases, we don’t. So, go ahead and pamper your Mama Bear next Sunday (May 12, 2019) because she deserves all the love in the world!
I used to have an Instagram account with the ID – Zaashabah which I decided to change into the IG account for my blog because of the ID name. Hence, I had to create another account for my personal use and naturally, I followed everyone from the previous account from my new personal account. The moment I sent out the follow requests, my inbox was flooded with the question above.
I’ve been contemplating on how to introduce myself to the world since the last five minutes, but then I realized, this is exactly what I DON’T want to do! I am here to speak my mind out; raw and unfiltered.
